We often get asked about the products we recommend to help with the various conditions that affect pelvic floor health. Here are the top 6 things we recommend at our clinic and why:
- Slippery Stuff – This is probably our number one recommended product. It’s our “go to” for a personal lubricant because it’s water based and paraben free. There are several health issues that can cause vaginal dryness such as breastfeeding and menopause, and this lubricant makes intimacy more comfortable.
2. Olive & Bee – This is a fantastic vaginal moisturizer. It’s all natural – which is why we love it! It’s antibacterial, antifungal, anti inflammatory, high in antioxidants and won’t interfere with the vaginal pH level. Olive and Bee can used as a:
- Massage oil
- Personal lubricant
- Body moisturizer
- Intimate cream for a sensitive vulva, vaginal and anal tissues
3. Fitsplints – These are a lifesaver for abdominal health when you are pregnant and post partum! The belt lifts the belly up off the bladder to help reduce bladder pressure. Straps can separate for motion control during activity or be placed down low for more hip support. They are fully adjustable for custom fit and are used for diastasis recti, hip, back or bladder support, pelvic girdle pain etc. After pregnancy, some women deal with some degree of abdominal separation and weak core muscles and tissue. The FITsplint can gently splint and support the stretched tissue. They come in 3 sizes and we fit you in office for them.
4. The OhNut – This set of 4 linking rings is designed to customize penetration depth during intercourse. Reviewed by The New York times, Mens’ Health Magazine, Forbes, The Doctors and The Oprah Magazine, this unique product is worn externally at the base of the penetrating partner and compresses down during penetration to make for a more comfortable experience.
5. Annurex – This is our “go to” hemorrhoid relief product for pevic floor health. Hemorrhoids can result from straining to go to the bathroom or when pushing a baby out. Annurex helps with minimizing the pain, itching and swelling of hemorrhoids that can result from these experiences. At our office, we work with patients who have dealt with these issues to help educate them on proper diet and bathroom techniques as well as repair and restore the pelvic floor muscles.
6. Compression Stockings – There are several conditions that can add pressure to the pelvic floor area such as deep vein thrombosis, leg swelling, or pregnancy resulting in varicrose veins. Compression stockings work to prevent blood clots and increase blood flow which benefits pelvic floor health in many ways. You do need a prescription from your doctor to get them and they need to be measured and fitted properly, which we do in our clinic.
At Durham Pelvic Health we strive to treat the whole person. Our assessments and treatment plans are very comprehensive and individualized as we try to educate our patients on necessary lifestyle factors that can affect their pelvic floor health and overall wellbeing. We are complex beings and all our biological systems- digestive, nervous, and reproductive are all interelated. A problem in one area will most definitely affect the whole person and it’s important to get to the root cause of the issue and not just treat the symptoms. We work to educate our patients on their specific condtions in order to empower them to heal.
